The Island is a multi-use arts facility and creation centre in the old police station in Bristol city centre. The project began in 2008 and has been running ever since. The Island is the longest running and most successful project of Artspace Lifespace and has had a very exciting and inspiring last couple of years.
The Island has been involved with a number of major art events in Bristol in recent years including BS1 Open, Brisfest, May Fest and Bristol Biennial; it is rapidly becoming one of the key locations of choice to be involved in local art promotion. At this exciting time of our development we are looking to recruit 3 new members to join our staff team:
1. Project Assistant
15 hours per week – possibility to increase hours & covering shifts over weekends on rotation with other members of staff
£8per hour rate (Fixed Term contract 6 months)
We are looking for an experienced and talented individual to join our Island office as a Project Assistant. We are looking to recruit a professional with a strong background in office management and an interest and passion for arts to work closely with our Project Manager, as well as provide general administrative support to the Project. The successful candidate will have a passion for arts assisting in the delivery of a wide range of activities, including professional performances, workshops and classes, as well as support for artists’ development. You will also work as part of the office team as the first point of contact for customers to ensure the smooth running of the office and the highest standard of service and customer care. You will need to be able to work under pressure, multi-task and work under your own initiative as well as following instructions and deliver within tight deadlines.
Experience in finance administration, web content management & front of house is desirable. The successful candidate should be also willing to work outside normal office hours and some unsociable hours (weekend, evenings). Read more online.
2. Finance Officer
10 hours per week (Fixed Term contract 6 months)
£10-12per hour rate depending on experience (Fixed Term contract 6 months)
We are looking for a new Finance Officer to join The Island team. Working hours are flexible. Additional hours may be required at times. Additional work may be available on other ArtspaceLifespace projects. The candidate would need to be able to work with minimal supervision. They will work closely with the Project Manager to assess and report on project finances, and also report to the Finance Director on a monthly basis. Read more online
3. Duty Manager
7pm – 10pm weeknights, covering shifts over weekends on rotation with other members of staff
£7 per hour rate (Fixed Term contract 6 months)

We are looking for a Duty Manager to join our Team. Experience in working in a large site and within the arts is important. Ability to problem solve and act under own initiative is essential. The candidate would need to be able to work with minimal supervision. Their main role is to set up and maintain all facilities ready for bookings and offer excellent customer service with excellent client communication and event delivery skills who can work with us to deliver a wide range of events and bookings.
