Young Gallery launches Friends Scheme

The Young Gallery is delighted to launch its Young Friends scheme established with the purpose of raising the Gallery profile and increasing participation and engagement for the people of Salisbury and beyond Wiltshire’s boundaries!

Young Friends complements the preSENSE objective, which also aims to develop new audiences and raise awareness of the gallery through a programme of exhibitions and innovative participatory arts initiatives; inspired by pieces from the Gallery’s own collections.

The Young Gallery has served the visual arts in Salisbury for over a century and current supporters already include Sir Christopher Benson and Lady Jo Benson who have kindly agreed to be Patrons of Young Friends. The programme will provide opportunity for visitors and users of the Gallery, both past, present and in the future to show their support and help further the Gallery objectives through a community of Gallery lovers.

Paul Whitelegg Chair of Young Friends says: “We want to establish an art gallery of international importance. We believe the timing is right and ask people to join us on this exciting journey!”

Members of Young Friends will receive Gallery news, information on exhibitions and be invited to private viewings. Annual individual membership costs just £30 and businesses are also welcome to show their support.

Local businesses Salisbury Journal, Gallery 21 and Colourview Print Solutions have already signed up to scheme, which is a wonderful start! These are exciting times for the Gallery and with the support of Young Friends the Gallery will aspire and achieve the status that it deserves.

Peter Riley Curator says: “It is time to realise the true potential of the Young Gallery. Our aim is to broaden the exhibitions programme and realise great art for the enjoyment of everyone, attracting new audiences both locally and further afield!”
