The Biochemical Society has announced that grants of up to £1,000 are available to support scientific outreach events that communicate the excitement of molecular bioscience to young people and the community.
Applications for funding are invited to assist with the direct costs associated with an event and expenses incurred (e.g. transport and/or teacher cover). The Biochemical Society must be acknowledged at the event and in the resources produced. Copies of all materials generated should be submitted to the Society to disseminate to others where appropriate. A short report of the activity and list of attendees is a condition of the grant.
Past projects include:
- A collaborative outreach project between the Biochemical Society and Islington Youth Theatre, blending drama and science;
- Science Week: Detective Sciences – an event that formed part of the Science week activities at Abercanaid Community School, Merthyr Tydfil and took place on Thursday, 19th March 2015. It was delivered to a class of 28 9 and 10 year olds. The focus of the event was centred on promoting scientific investigation, scientific thinking and enhancing English language skills.
The next deadline for applications will be in September 2015.
