Job: Artistic Programmer, Brewhouse Theatre, Taunton

BrewhouseAn excellent opportunity for a creative and entrepreneurial programming expert to play a key role in the artistic and business development of the Brewhouse Theatre and Arts Centre.

Taunton Theatre Association, a registered charity, has run the Brewhouse Theatre and Arts Centre since it re-opened in April 2014.   In July 2015 TTA appointed Chief Executive, Vanessa Lefrancois; in August 2015 Southern Sinfonia relocated to Taunton and took up residency at the Brewhouse.  TTA is steadily recruiting a core team of experts to lead the next stage of the organisation’s development and wish to appoint an experienced programmer to schedule the theatre programme, and curate its exhibition spaces and contextual activities to support the artistic programme.

The Artistic Programmer will play a key role in determining the artistic direction of The Brewhouse, Somerset County Town’s most prolific venue.  The theatre is primarily a receiving house programming a variety of professional and community drama, dance, comedy, family and music performances.  The main auditorium seats 352, the studio theatre 60.  There is an art gallery, two further exhibiting spaces and rooms for community engagement activities, as well as outdoor performance space.  TTA plans to revive its cinema programme and the Brewhouse is actively involved in local festivals and events.

The post holder will work closely with the Chief Executive to develop an appealing, high-quality, programme to cultivate and reach new audiences and increase the venue’s cultural, economic and social impact in the South West.  TTA aspires to develop more daytime activities and performances targeted at communities in and around Taunton.  The Artistic Programmer will work closely with the Marketing and Communications Team and Community Engagement Officer and with experts who currently advise on elements of its artistic programme.  An important part of the role will be to foster relations with promoters, agents, companies, artists, and develop partnership with other arts and cultural enterprises.

Salary Pro Rata: £26-28,000 pa (full-time or 0.8 contract)
