The Cultural Education Challenge is Arts Council England’s call for the art, culture and education sectors to work together in offering a consistent and high quality art and cultural education for all children and young people.
Since the regional launch of ACE’s Cultural Education Challenge for Swindon and Wiltshire at the Wyvern Theatre and Arts Centre in February 2016, and the feedback that followed, partners have met three times hosted at the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, Wiltshire Music Centre and Trowbridge Town Hall Arts to discuss how to respond and if there was a shared purpose that could be served by establishing a Cultural Education Partnership (CEP) spanning Wiltshire and Swindon.
The agreed starting point for the CEP has been to hone in on how best cultural organisations can work with schools, with plans to recruit school leaders as cultural curators who can help translate cultural provision into language and applications that address the most important challenges schools face. Discussions have been wide ranging and the partnership expects to evolve in the future to focus on other areas where there is benefit for partners to collaborate and where resources can be found to support activity.
Ultimately, the Wiltshire and Swindon CEP aims to improve educational, cultural and social outcomes for children and young people through broadening effective interaction between Arts and Culture and Schools.
