The Burton at Bideford Art Gallery and Museum is seeking an exceptional individual to develop and deliver the strategic initiatives as set out in the strategic plan.
Working in partnership with the Board of Trustees of the Charity and the Directors of its Trading Company, this will include directing The Burton at Bideford through a period of change and driving and enhancing its reputation as a cultural centre, gallery and museum.
As the only purpose built venue in the area on the North Coast between Bristol and St Ives, the Burton hosts exhibitions of national and international standing and works with the local community of all ages, families and schools.
The Burton at Bideford first opened in 1951. Since then the collection has grown and the Burton now has curatorial responsibility for some 3,000 heritage artefacts and paintings in its collection.
Applicants will be passionate and knowledgeable about the arts and heritage funding environment and act as custodian of the Burton Brand. You will possess strong leadership skills which will enable you to build effective relationships with the Chair, Board of Trustees and fellow Directors of Burton Enterprises. You will also have a proven track record of effectively leading change and organisational growth through strategic planning.
Sound financial acumen will ensure that appropriate financial controls are in place to deliver the plan within budget whilst using your previous experience to implement appropriate fundraising and income generating strategies. Excellent relationship management techniques will engage and inspire individuals and previous experience of working with major stakeholders, means you will be able to develop successful partnerships, and enhance The Burton at Bideford’s public profile.
You will be a highly motivated and committed professional, with at least three years’ experience of working at a senior level in an arts or heritage organisation with significant visitor numbers.
The Burton at Bideford is fully accredited. It operates a significant visual arts programme of between 10-15 exhibitions a year. It works with national institutions including Tate, the Royal Academy , V & A and the Barbican.
Salary: £32,000-£37,000 dependent upon experience.
Hours: 37 hours a week over 5 days to include weekends.
