NCVO has established the Charity Tax Commission. It’s reviewing and assessing how the charity taxation and reliefs system can be modernised to help charities make an even greater contribution to society.
Tax reliefs for charities are estimated to be worth £3.77bn a year, the main ones being business rates relief, Gift Aid and VAT relief, while reliefs for individuals are worth £1.47bn. Hugely important numbers.
So how can the system be improved?
