Opportunity: Community art competition to celebrate Salisbury

Salisbury City Council invites residents of Salisbury to take part in a fun competition to design the central image in a piece of community artwork which will be situated outside Shopmobility in the Maltings Shopping Centre, Salisbury.

With a theme of ‘Celebrating Salisbury’, the competition is looking for a design which will represent the best of Salisbury and enhance that area of the City.

The winning design will be re-created using hand-cut coloured vinyl as part of a series of workshops which all can attend. It will then be professionally printed and laminated to withstand time and weather.

The Chairman of the Council’s Communities Working Group, Cllr John Farquhar, said: ‘We would like people to think about their favourite parts of Salisbury and what the City means to them. As a starting point, you are encouraged to think about the buildings, rivers and green spaces of Salisbury’.

The Council’s Communities Manager, Annie Scadden said: ‘We are looking for designs which have the potential to bring the people of Salisbury together not just through creating the artwork itself but also in taking pride in the finished result’.

This competition is open to the Salisbury community, both individuals and groups.  The winning design will be acknowledged on a permanent plaque next to the finished artwork. The designer will be presented with a personalised Photo Book detailing the journey of the community project from early design to finished piece.

Entries may be created using any media but it must be landscape orientation and suitable for a finished piece of approximately 1 metre high by 2.5 metres long (3.28’ x 8.20’).
