Cohesive communities are about more than just preventing or addressing unacceptable behaviour and hate crime. The LGA guide has a chapter on culture and sport and includes a number of case studies. It indicates that culture and sport as part of a planned programme of activities, can have an extremely important role in promoting contact, integration, respect and understanding between people of different backgrounds. As such they are a powerful tool for engaging all sections of the community, breaking down barriers that may exist and dispelling myths and negative stereotypes.
