Opportunity for 3D Artists

Althea Wynne at workIn the first post on our new blog you will have seen Peter Tyas talking about opportunities for artists, here’s one to start things rolling…

In the autumn of last year I met with Lesley Andrews who represents the Friends of the Garden to talk about the Althea Wynne Bursary; a fabulous opportunity for Wiltshire artists who are serious about promoting and selling their work in a commercial environment.

The Bursary is sponsored by the Friends of The Garden with the support of the Althea’s family and will provide one successful artist with funds to engage a professional photographer to capture their work. This is a unique opportunity for Wiltshire artists, whether you work or live here. The bursary is focused on artists working in a 3D medium which for example could include furniture but not jewellery. The selection panel are looking for professional artists who have completed a formal arts education or served an apprenticeship and want to see how your portfolio would reach a new audience as a result of the award.

A really exciting part of this bursary opportunity is that we are also arranging for the shortlisted artists to exhibit their work at two Wiltshire galleries in a joint exhibition. Exhibitions will take place at The Young Gallery in Salisbury in December this year and then at The Pound in Corsham in January 2014.  The winning artist will also be invited to take part in the Friends next exhibition to be held in 2014 at West Lavington Manor.

So are you serious about your work, does this sound like an opportunity for you? If so then you need to contact Lesley Andrews on 01672 540180 or email her Lesley.andrews@virgin.net The deadline is the end of April.
